It one characterized by mutual respect, not necessarily uniformity in beliefs and philosophies, we are all so different and stand on so many points within the spectrum of humanity but there are a few unspoken rules that we follow. A Cuban In London said...: Was this done with charcoal? I loved it. It is so expressive, the lines are delicate and at the same time rough. I know it sounds contradictory but I get a sea of emotions watching this drawing. Disappointment mixed with reflection, her eyes (his eyes? Why do I thnk it is a woman? It might well be a bloke with long hair) are semiclosed and almost dreamy, maybe even thinking of what it could have been. Many thanks for this lovely present on this nice and sunny Sunday afternoon.

This is the first full-dress show in Britain for half a century. People who know the legend of the stockbroker turned artist who abandoned his family and took the banana boat to Tahiti for free food and sex, may never have had a chance to see the paintings at all. And even for those who have, there will be revelations: the portrait of Gauguin's sleeping child from Copenhagen, anxious dreams unfurling in the air around him; the spectral riders approaching a cobalt Styx in Moscow's The Ford (Flight); the self-portrait as a vermilion-haired Christ in the garden of olives, flown in from Palm Beach, Florida. This is Gauguin's pictorial imagination at full stretch, the show of a lifetime!
